Why did you decide to work at Kotter?

In a previous job I taught strategic marketing to teams using computerized simulations. I was always struck by how cultures, corporate and industry in particular, permeated interactions and decisions the teams made. Becoming curious about the impact culture had on outcomes, both good and bad, lead me to Kotter International.

What in your background helps you in this job?

My marketing and sales background helps me enormously. It is where I learned to listen, ask more questions, think in terms of barriers and benefits, and how to communicate with a target audience in mind. This comes in handy when helping others identify and work through the challenges associated with change.

What is your proudest moment?

Graduating from Babson with an MBA at the age of 42. It took five long years going nights, but it was worth every penny and ounce of sweat. Seeing the degree of change since my undergraduate days stemming from technology, both in teaching methods as well as advancements in business itself, was incredibly illuminating and profound. Not to mention the benefit of being surrounded by a whole new generation of business professionals.

What’s got you thinking right now?

Polarities and the role they play in our work with clients as it relates to change, communication, and leadership; as well as the role it is playing out in the political landscape today.

Share something about you that would most surprise people.

I’m a classic introvert. Given what I do for a living and its demands; nature, solitude and quiet is what I cherish in order to recharge.
