LeadCap.org: Embracing the 8-Step Process
Dr. Kotter’s work has been used broadly to effect major changes in corporations around the globe. Its impact, however, has been much wider than business. Leadcap.org embraced Dr. Kotter’s 8-Step Process for Leading Change to drive their mission to transform leadership in India. The organization used these methods to begin to build a sense of urgency among young people in India to democratize leadership across a county that has been stifled with a old caste system mentality. Leadcap.org built a guiding coalition that created a clear vision for the transformation.
Their change vision reads, “LeadCap is building India as a nation of leaders. Through the most unique leadership movement, led by thinkers from the Ivy League, we are striving to democratize leadership, where everyone has an opportunity to realize their leadership potential; beyond birth and living conditions, to make a positive contribution to the society.”
From here the group begun leveraging the urgency that they had been building to communicate this vision from a grassroots level throughout the nation. Videos such as this were used to communicate this vision.
Then people became empowered to go make change and created their own events such as this one in Bangalore. Their passion became contagious. They have started to make a difference.
They did not let up on the movement despite early wins. They have a million leader mandate which demands constant reinforcement. They continue encouraging the efforts to help these leaders realize their full potential through pieces such as this one.
To build this into their culture they are taking these steps:
- Break the inertia. Take the Million-Leader-Mandate Pledge on the banner on top.
- Get involved. Be more aware of your defining moments, your strengths, and weaknesses. To be a part of the online LeadLab sessions.
- Dive in to action. Get involved in our online and offline communities. Assimilate your learning. Conceptualize your own communities. Get on to the next level.
