The ability to change quickly and efficiently is not a core competency of most organizations. For many organizations, change is difficult, painful and costly. In a world of ever increasing rates of change and where entire economies can shift almost overnight, an inability to change quickly and well can mean the difference between an organization thriving or dying. Often initiatives stall and the leadership is stuck figuring out what went wrong. Alternatively, when high stakes change is required and plans are being made, it is critical to test those plans against the knowledge of experts in leading change. For individual executives and executive teams that are in the midst of a challenging change initiative, or where the stakes of organizational change are so high that flaws must be uncovered before the process is underway, spotting key problems and solving them is critical to success.
Kotter International provides a one or two day summit with Dr. Kotter and a Kotter International qualified engagement leader to address the specifics of an organization’s change initiative, and provides counsel as to how best to ensure its success. In this engagement, Kotter International comes to understand the specific change initiative and tailors a summit experience that is designed to uncover and resolve problems and pitfalls.
The executive or executive team provides an application to Kotter International describing the organization’s change initiative and other background information.
Upon accepting the application, a Kotter International engagement leader is assigned to work with the participants. The engagement leader interviews up to 10 senior executives in preparation for the coaching sessions.
As one option, Kotter International can conduct a diagnostic survey of the organization’s top leaders to see how well they understand and implement the critical skills necessary to navigate change.
- Once the interviews are complete, the Kotter International engagement leader and Dr. Kotter prepare a detailed plan for a one or two day summit with the key client contact. Each summit is customized to advance the client’s specific objectives.
- The first day of the executive summit is kicked off by Dr John Kotter in a 2 to 3 hour session either in person in Cambridge, MA or by video conference. Dr. Kotter applies his vast understanding of how organizations successfully change to the client’s situation and sets the direction for the remainder of the summit. Subsequent to the orientation by Dr. Kotter, the Kotter International engagement leader facilitates the summit meeting, reviews the results of the executive interviews, and outlines with the client executive team a game plan moving forward.
At the end of the summit the engagement leader writes up a summary of the interviews, meeting, and game plan moving forward. This summary is reviewed by Dr. Kotter.
