The ability to change quickly and efficiently is not a core competency of most organizations. For many organizations, change is difficult, painful and costly. In a world of ever increasing rates of change and where entire economies can shift almost overnight, an inability to change quickly and well can mean the difference between an organization thriving or dying. Creating the competency to adaptively change starts with an organization’s top leadership. Until organizational leaders understand the dynamics of change, develop the capacities to lead change, and can effectively align others around change initiatives, the organization’s leaders cannot declare their ability to navigate change as a core competency. For individual executives and executive teams that would like to lead more empowered change, Dr. Kotter offers a series of interactions designed to provide specific counsel and insights that will move the individual or team to higher levels of competency.
Kotter International provides a series of eight to twelve consultations with Dr. Kotter and a qualified Kotter International engagement leader by video conference to an individual senior executive or a senior executive team of up to ten members. In this engagement, Kotter International comes to understand the specific needs of the executives involved, and the context of the organizations they lead. In this way Kotter International helps ensure that the consultation sessions and exercises are tailored to fit the specific needs and concerns of the participants.
The executive or executive team provides an application to Kotter International describing the organization’s change initiative, and other background information.
Upon accepting the application, a Kotter International engagement leader is assigned to work with the participants. The engagement leader interviews up to 10 senior executives in preparation for the coaching sessions.
As one option, Kotter International can conduct a diagnostic survey of the organization’s top leaders to see how well they understand and implement the critical skills necessary to navigate change.
- Once the interviews and due diligence are completed the participants will meet with Dr. John Kotter by video conference to discuss gaps in leadership related to developing a core competency to navigate change. Utilizing Dr. Kotter’s extensive research and deep understanding of leading change, coupled with specific exercises to be completed between sessions, Dr. Kotter and the engagement leader help the executive or executive team to move towards a clearer and more focused approach to change.
At the end of the consultation, the engagement leader writes up a summary of the interviews, meetings, and game plan moving forward. This summary is reviewed and approved by Dr. Kotter and provided to the client.
